[Posted October 19, 2011] Bob Yearout, Michigan Alpha Pledge Class of Fall 1960, passed away suddenly on January 13, 2011 following knee replacement surgery. Bob, a Cincinnati native, entered the University of Michigan on a basketball scholarship during the fall of 1960. He later earned B.A. and M. Ed. degrees from Miami University, and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Cincinnati.
Bob’s career path in education led him to become superintendent of Wyoming City Schools near Cincinnati which was ranked among the top one hundred public schools in the nation by Newsweek and U.S. News and World Report. He also served as the executive director of the Council for Academic Excellence in Ohio, and was a founder and executive director of High AIMS whose focus was on math and science.
The following quote from a Wyoming City Schools publication reflects on how Bob was known and regarded: “Throughout the many years we had the privilege of knowing him, Bob was simply Bob – kind, caring, warm-hearted, humorous, organized, courageous, forward thinking, devoted to children, and committed to achieving excellence in education. He was a good man and a man of integrity. He inspired us to do our best and to aim high in our aspirations, professions or daily lives.”
Bob is survived by his wife Cathy, son Chris (Kristen), daughters, Kate Rummer (Keith) and Sarah Williams, (Jerry) and seven grandchildren. The Robert A. Yearout Aim High Fund has been established in Bob’s memory through the Wyoming School Foundation.
