[October 2010] Woodward A. “Chip” Warrick, Jr. ’47 was the 2007 winner of the Ufer Award. Over the last seven decades, Warrick built up a long list of accomplishments at, and in support of, the University. He was a member of the U of M wrestling teams of 1943 and 1944. Warrick earned an Engineering degree in 1946 and then obtained a degree from the Michigan Business School in 1947.
After college, Warrick maintained a close affiliation with the University by serving as President of the U of M Club of Cincinnati in 1961 and 1962, as well as President of the M Club in 1967.
According to the M Club, Warrick was instrumental in the move to admit women into the organization and on its executive board. He also played a key role in the creation of the Ufer Award. It is worth noting that Ufer was Warrick’s college roommate.
The M Club also credited Warrick with helping to develop in the early 1960s a pipeline of strong Michigan football recruits from the Cincinnati area including Bob Timberlake, Mel Anthony, and Carl Ward among other standouts. More recently, the M Club recognized Warrick’s significant support for U of M’s new and much-improved wrestling facilities.
